AIG is the big story right now. Everyone and their mother is talking about the bonusus that the CEO’s and other employees of AIG received this quarter even after getting a large sum of the taxpayer’s money in the sum of a “stimulus/bailout.”
President Barack Obama is defending his decision to wait a few days before expressing his anger over the bonuses paid out to executives at troubled insurer AIG.
Critics questioned why the president seemed days behind the populist anger over the $165 million that were distributed at the company bailed out with federal tax dollars.
Said Obama: “It took us a couple of days because I like to know what I’m talking about before I speak.”
The president was answering questions at a prime-time news conference (AP)
On the campaign trail Obama multiple times said he would go line-by-line through every bill on his desk before he signed it. If congress put something in the bill that he disagreed with he would send it back. The Stimulus bill, along with the clause that allowed the bonsus to be paid out to the AIG executives went past Obama’s desk.
Principle Number Three, ” I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.” President Obama was not honest with the American people. First off, he shouldn’t have made such promises to go “line-by-line” if he wasn’t going to uphold that it. This is a reason people have no confidence in anyone inside Washington. They act like hypocritical weasels and NO ONE keeps their campaign promises. It really waters down the whole point doesn’t it?
Principle Number Seven, ” I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.” Congress is on the fast track of passing a bill that specifically targets the AIG CEO’s and executives. In the bill they must pay back 90% of the bonus money, and the other %10 usually goes towards the state so in the end they receive nothing. These executives have contracts that say they are paid by bonsus instead of a traditional salary or wage. For the year they get $1, plus the bonus. While I understand the outrage, the focus shouldn’t be on What they do with the money. The outrage should be focused on the government that gave the stimulus in the first place. This company, and others do not need bailout dollars. Our government needs to get out of the insurance business.
Hello everyone and welcome to my new blog, ReformBlog.com. I purchased this domain name a couple months ago and I didn’t know exactly how i would use it. Obviously I would talk about reforming the government, but what should the government before reformed into?
About the same time that I was coming up with the answer to this question Glenn Beck began his “We Surround Them” project on Fox News and on his radio program (the912project.com). The project is simple; believe in the majority of the 9 Principles. He chose these principles because they are what the founders of our nation believed.
1. America is Good.
2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.
3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.
4. The Family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.
5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.
6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.
7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.
8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or share my personal opinion.
9. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.
I began developing the design of the website shortly after Glenn released the 9 Principles, and then he included the 12 values as well.
My goal of governmental reform is simple: to get every part of the government, from the President all the way down to the city councilman to believe in these basic principles. Once that happens then true reform can happen. To me true reform is when we have representives who perform their civic duties to promote and spread the 9 principles and values into the deepest and darkest hallways of our nation. These representives represent not for political fame or fortune, but for true love of their nation, it’s people, it’s past, and it’s future. We cannot have people in the government who seek to destroy our founding documents, fathers, and fundlementaly change the interpretation what the founders meant for these documents.
The one thing that has made out country great is that were based in these principles. However, since then our nation and it’s people have got lost. Now is the time to read the principles, understand them, and apply them to the news of the day. Every principle is the solutions to every single news story and issue that trouble Americans today.
This website is not about one-uping one side of the political spectrum over the other. I have my beliefs, and your beliefs may be different. All that matters to me is that we agree with the basic principles and values. After those are firmly established we can have honest debates about the other issues.
This website, ReformBlog.com is my own extension of the912project.com.
I’m an ordinary citizen of the Union. I do not have a major law degree at some fancy ivy league school and cannot define every single word found in the dictionary (though Google’s built in dictionary puts me on your level!) I’m not a crazy nutjob who is declaring for a 2nd Revolution. Also, I’m not a drone for Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh or any other conservative talk show host, columists, or free thinking citizen. I’m just an average 26 year old Joe from Iowa. I laugh, I cry, I watch tv shows like The Office, 24, Lost, and even Ugly Betty. I know the difference between right and wrong.
My name is Joe and I believe in the 9 Principles and 12 Values.
